Now What?

Why is mindfulness important? It permits the invocation of a allocentric perspective called selflessness. Is this enough? What is so important about selflessness? I believe that selflessness is an essential step in the development of positive emotional states but while essential, may not be sufficient.

Mindfulness–>Selflessness–>Empathy–>Compassion

In her 2011 book, Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life religious historian Karen Armstrong argues, as she does in this TED talk that the only legitimate goal of religion is to alleviate human kind’s suffering.

Similarly I believe that the only legitimate end for mindfulness practice is also the betterment of humankind.
